Romeo’s Surgery

Romeo came into Rushden Persian Rescue at 9 months of age with no real reason as to why he was being given up. We soon found he didn’t play as a normal kitten should but we thought with a little TLC time would tell.

Romeo’s Surgery

After a short time Romeo started to play with Ariel & Miss Mash in the kitten room. It was then we noticed he was limping on his back right leg. ‘Hmm’ something was wrong and as we had found him a new home and he was leaving in 2 days time we decided to have him vet checked again.

Now we know why he was limping – he has bi-lateral luxating patella’s, we booked him in for x-rays with Jonathan, our vet, to find out how serious this was for Romeo and what or if surgery would be needed to give this baby a chance of a pain free future life. Regardless of the cost, we feel this lad needs to learn to play, run and just be a naughty young Persian.

We had been watching this young man since he arrived so we knew something was holding him back from playing, but we never thought it would be as bad as this – the x-rays showed he needed surgery on both legs, but and it’s a BIG BUT his growth plates are still open so he needs to wait for another 3 months before he can be operated on. This gives us the chance to raise the funds for the surgery and after care that our vet has estimated will be £1500.

Romeo is loving his life with us and we know the surgery will be a long road to recovery but we feel it will be so worth it for him, in the long run, to lead a full and pain free life.
